Dynamics Processing - fine tuning control points?

$

Hi Community!

I am fine-tuning my Dynamics Processing control points to match that of a web tutorial. I really like the settings and think they could work for me.

I take this path: Effects>Amplitude and Compression > Dynamics Processing and when the Dynamics window opens, I attempt to shift the control points to this setting: Point 1 - compression above -20.27; Point 2 - expansion below -20.27.

My challenge is to get points 1 and 2 to read the same db, in this case, -20.27. This way, there is compression above -20.27 and expansion below -20.27.

I can`t ever get point two to move off of -100.00 db on the x-axis.

In the web tutorial I saw, control point 2 is indeed at the far left (-100.00db) but the parameters I`ve mentioned are present in the Dynamics Processing window.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Audition partially speeding up part of recording

This is a very bizarre issue, but it's happened to me twice on two separate recordings and is a bit of a problem. I record a podcast directly through Audition via a USB recording interface. I've noticed that at a seemingly random point towards the end of the recording, the recorded content seems to have been sped up. It lasts for a few seconds and then returns back to the normal speed. It's like a 2x fast forward was applied during the recording and is now baked into the recording itself.

My recordings feature two separate tracks for two voice inputs. The speed up occurs on both tracks.

I've had this happen on two separate recordings - totally separate project files. Furthermore, these two recordings were actually done on two completely different USB interfaces as well, so I'm certain it's not the interfaces (neither of which have the option to do anything like what I'm hearing).

I'm not sure if this is related either, but occasionally if Audition loses program focus, the recording will continue but the clip won't actually show itself being created. When the recording is finished, it won't update either - I have to close and reopen the project and then manually drag the clips out to their full length.

I'm using the latest version of Audition (CC 2018, build 11) on Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.1.

Regardless of this problem, would anyone know of a good clean way to fix the actual recording now as well?

"The favorite cannot be applied to this file"

Hello everyone,

I have set up a favorite a couple of months back.
Amplify   --->   -o.3dB

When reactivating Audition to work on another project, I tried using this favorite again on some .ogg voice over files with 48 kHz sample rate, mono.
This is when the error message "The favorite cannot be applied to this file" pops up.

A screenshot can be found here:

I wasn't able to find anything about this error online so far.
Any help/comments appreciated.

Cheers,
Philipp

audio playing ahead of waveform

I recently received the update for Audition CC 2018, which I immediately installed because I like new stuff. And I have to say, I've been met with nothing but issues while using it since.

One of the most annoying issues that I'm facing is that audio playback for files recorded on my computer (this does not apply to audio files imported from elsewhere) is out of sync with what the indicator on screen would suggest.

Basically, I can hear audio about half a second before the waveform starts on my screen. In the image below, I can hear the audio where the indicator currently is, even though the wave doesn't start until a later moment.

However, when I go into the waveform editor by double-clicking the track, everything seems to be running in sync. Furthermore, I can select part of the track and remove it, and the correct piece will be removed.

I honestly have no idea what might be causing this, but it's making it very difficult to edit my projects like this.

I am running Windows 10 Pro, and this happened both before and after the fall creators update. My system has 16 GB of DDR3 memory, and all audio files are stored on an SSD.

Audio out of sync since October 2017 Update

I'm running Adobe Audition on a PC with Windows 10 and have been for quite some time with no issue. After updating to Adobe Audition CC 2018 I started experiencing an issue where one of my tracks is out of sync with the other tracks. 3 tracks were recorded through Audition on someone else's computer (a podcast with 3 mics). That person has not installed the recent update.

When I opened the session to edit one of the vocal tracks was out of sync. I tried moving it around and syncing it up visually but strangely the audio would start ahead of the waveform. In other words the visual of the waveform and the audio on all tracks were not synced. So instead I moved the 3rd track around and synced it up with the rest of the tracks by ear. All seemed fine until I exported.

When listening to my exported MP3 the third track was out of sync again. To fix it I had to go back to my session and place the 3rd track out of sync again and only then would the exported file be in sync. Weird.

I checked the session on another computer where I have not yet updated Audition and there's no problem on that one. So it's most definitely an update issue. Possible incompatibility between the un-updated Audition where it was recorded and the updated Audition where I was editing?

Anyone have any ideas on this? I've been working with Audition for years and never run into this issue.

Hi guys,

I have a major problem with my recorded audio file. I uploaded my MacBook last week and my recordings on audition was lost when I opened the program. I tried to find them, and eventually did, but I can't open them. What's the problem? It looks like this:

What is the best way to import RED Camera footage into Audition?  I only want to work with the audio and I am not an experienced editor!  I'd like to skip Premiere and just work with the audio from the Red footage in Audition. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Audio output not working with MacOS High Sierra

I use a Mackie Big Knob Studio monitor controller to switch between headphones and monitors on a 2013 Mac Pro.

The Mackie BKS controller is a USB plug and play device. It just works... or did.

I updated to High Sierra (unwittingly) and discovered that my current setup no longer works. The Mackie USB still shows up in the Output/Input list in System Preferences/Sound/ but, selecting it does nothing. No sound comes out. I do get sound if I use the default system sound.

I realize this isn't exactly an Adobe Audition problem... but, I was hoping someone in the Audio Engineering world has either run in to a similar problem, or is willing to help me out.

Mackie's forum is non-existent—but I don't believe they caused the problem.
I posted on Apple's forum, the agency responsible for the problem, but haven't heard anything back.

I really prefer the Adobe Forum community, so I'm hoping someone else here might have some insights on this.

Audition CC 2016 Record 2 mics with audio interface help

I've got two Audio Technica mics running through an Audiobox USB interface, into my Macbook Pro (OS X El Capitan). Whenever I hit record, I can only ever get mic 1 to work. How can I fix this and get both mics recording? I'm pretty new to this software, and I've found dated solutions that have not yet proven helpful.

Thank you.

Pop-up windows is gone

I am missing the FFT filter window - i frequently used it, but now it does not pop up anymore when I click to get it.

The border (I'm on Windows) does highlight, or even blink, to indicate something else opened / moved focus to another window. Nothing happens.

I can still open other windows such as the Stretch And Pitch effect window...

What can I do to get it back?

Playback while recording in CEP

So, I searched all over online for answers and then for forums, and this is the only forum that appears to be active that may be able to help me out. It's related to Cool Edit Pro 2.0.

I've been using CEP since 2003 (yeah I know, time to upgrade. I have, but I always go back). I've never run into this problem before.

I got a new PC recently, and had my guitarist come over this weekend to get some tracks recorded. The session plays perfectly fine, but when I hit record, it'll record, but wont play any of the other pre-existing tracks. Nothing is muted or solo'd. It literally doesn't even show music playing down in the monitor level section. But when I'm just playing the music, it's fine..

At first, I thought maybe it was a Windows 10 problem, but then I remembered I recently recorded my singer on my laptop, which also has Windows 10. So I don't know what the issue is.

Any thoughts?

Editing: Click and drag issues in CS5.5

I’ve been searching for an answer to this problem and can’t seem to locate a solution. I do a lot of podcast editing in CS5.5. When editing a Multitrack audio, the file often times switches to Waveform when I left-click the mouse. This has occurred when adding a splice, and, when I attempt to click and drag an audio clip. Sometimes, it takes several attempt to perform this task in a Multitrack screen, without it bouncing to Waveform. Any idea what causes this and how to make it stop doing that?

Move Playhead to In Point / Out Point keyboard shortcuts do not work while playing.

Move Playhead to In Point / Out Point keyboard shortcuts do not work while playing.

Of course stopping play before clicking resolves the issue, but making it a one-click deal would effectively be twice as efficient with no downside, and unify Audition's UX a bit more with Premiere other editing software.

Beyond the two-click solution is there a setting that might affect this?

If not I'll post as a Feature Request as well.

15db warning every time I normalise clip in PP before editing in Audition

$

Since the update to CC2018, every time I normalise an audio clip in PP (to say -12db), prior to editing the multitrack in Audition, on opening Audition I get a warning to say I'm trying to use a clip set to more than +15db and that Audition needs to mess with it to take it down to +15db.

Once it's then open it plays absolutely as normal.

I'm sure I'm just being dumb somewhere, but can anyone explain this, or is it a bug?

The audio in question is recorded on my Sennheiser radio mics, with the sensitivity set to -30db. I then have to normalise the clips up so that they are audible without putting my amp volume up to 11.

Computer is MacPro 5,1 6core 3.33GHz, 48GB RAM, GTX680 Mac GPU, OSX 10.13.1 (High Sierra), Adobe CC fully updated to latest versions. My Mac is very solid and High Sierra is working very well for me.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Normalizing the audio

$

I'm putting together my film's audio including the camera audio and lav mics and have read and watched a lot of tutorials of which many recommend for example normalizing the audio for all peaks to -3 db and then some say for tv  the audio peak should be -12 db and some say - 24 db so go figure ?

2. Anyway,  my common sense would tell me not to normalize the audio to for example - 3 db or some other fixed number because that would mean that a normal quiet dialogue speech would be peaking at the same loudness to the listener than somebody shouting which would not make sense, correct ? So if that's the case would the solution be to have to go over each audio clip manually and make sure for example normal talk dialogue would peak out consistently for example in the -10 db range and loud scenes to max out peak out in the - 3db range ?

3. I recorded the actors' audio with xlr mic lavs stereo not mono to a tascam audio recorder but for some reason on the Adobe Audition timeline it comes out only from one speaker which i can fix quite easily by the effect Fill left from right, or actually perhaps even better just right clicking and then clicking Audio Channels and putting a checkmark on both Left and Right checkbox vertically on top of each other. I guess that's acceptable as well ?
