Audition opening Premiere OMFs - file association mismatch

Hello,

I am an engineer working in Audition (CC 2015 build 8.1.0.162) on OS 10.11.4.  I am having problems opening up OMFs. While ~90% of the files open as expected, as many as 10% of the files open up as either the wrong file, or in the wrong position in the timeline, or with the wrong part of the clip playing. 

 

The most common problem I get is this, for example:

Say tracks 4-8 are audience room mics for the entire the timeline.  Throughout the 60-min project there are cuts every minute to 5 minutes.  Randomly (seemingly), at, say, the edit at 22m35s track 5 suddenly plays a music track until the next edit, at which time it returns to the proper file.  The file in the timeline has the proper name but when I go to reference that file ("reveal in finder" or "reveal in project") it leads me to a different file.  I can go back to the original video editor and there is no indication why this would happen; everything there is fine.

 

My first guess was that this was a compatibility issue between the video apps exporting the file and Audition.  But I have had this same issue whether OMFs come from FCP, FCPX, or Premiere.  Slowly, project after project, I was able to get video editors to use the same Premiere release/version as my Audition release/version and I am still having the same problems.  I have even gone so far as to get the video edit files in-house, and on my same computer, but I still end up with the same types of errant file associations and placements.  Sometimes a simple reopening of the OMF will fix this, but you can't always tell if it did.  Plus, it may seem like everything worked only to get to the 800th edit point and find another problem.  I can have the project open in Premiere with everything intact and toggle over to Audition with different files being played in the exact same spot in the timeline.

 

I feel I have encountered every type of error you can get when exporting OMFs/XMLs/etc.

Before I go into more detail has anyone else encountered this kind of issue when opening OMFs in Audition?

Every time I attempt to edit a specific channel by disabling the other and pressing play, audition crashes.

Track level VS master level - bug

Hey dear Community,

 

I cannot grasp why the track level is different from the master level, without effects, gain changes what so ever. I have one mono track in the project.

Using the LoundnessRadar tool, both track and master volume are the same, but the level meters have different peaks?!

 

Anyone with a similar problem or a solution for this?

Removing High Pitched Noise Throughout audio? (appearing as horizontal line)

I have noticed on one particular recording 3 horizontal lines running accross the entire audio at the 8.5K, 13k and 17k marks - showing up in the spectral frequency view.

 

My hearing is pretty good and I can hear that this line is a high pitched whine  (only around the area where the speaker is talking) .

 

Once I ran the "Noise Reduction (process)" it became much more noticable as it was no longer hidden in the noise.

 

I have tried using the auto heal (the only technique I have found so far for removing specific sounds from audio) but am not having too much success using it.

 

I also do not seem to have the "sound remover (Process)" that was suggested to try in another tutorial - is this found somewhere else other than under the "Noise Reduction/Restroation" panel?

 

  • Can anyone offer any tips to remove these humms without overly damaging the audio?
  • Anyone have any tips to avoiding recording humms like this? - we are using a decent quality Lapel mic to record the audio - but do not have a sound studio for the recording

I like to run Audition CC on WIN 7 32 bit but a message box says „Only on 64 bit systems“.

 

Is that true?

Yellow Volume bar not working on Adobe Audition

We aren't able to adjust the yellow volume bar in the multitrack form.
We are unable to adjust it to fade in or our; or to move it at all.

 

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Multi Track Record and Monitor at the same time?

Question: For the experts.

 

How do you play a track on Track 1

 

Whilst recording on Track 2 and monitoring what you hear?

 

Such as to narrate. Or voice.. over something but have the music in your headphones.

 

Here is my set up.

 

1. Soundcraft mixer, goes into the mini jack on the back of my IMAC

2. AT404 and DBX 286s runs into the Mixer.

3. Out to the IMAC and telling Auditiio

 

 

 

I have searched for ages... and the only thing I can find is "Line Out" the free software... but that is not very effective due to latency.

Merge clips

Hi.  What exactly is the function of 'merge clips'?  I did some cutting and nudging of clips in Multitrack, crossfaded them, and when I did 'merge clips' action on them, they merged just fine, but all the level automation on the clips disappeared.  As it turned out, that was okay, but it wasn't what I wanted - I just wanted to join up the clips, leaving the automation intact.  So, my questions are:

 

* Does 'Merge clips' do anything more than join up separate clips and implement the automation on those clips?

 

* Is there a way to join up separate clips and leave the automation on each of those clips intact?

Is it possible to lower all sound above a certain db level to a db level that I want?

I've been manually selecting certain small portions of my audio recordings and lowering them to -6 db. It's time consuming and I just see it as a waste of time that I could be using on something else. Could I select all sounds above a certain level, lets say -6 db, and lower it to exactly -6 db?

Error attempting to open .ogg file

I am attempting to open a .ogg file for editing, but I keep getting the following error:

I'm not sure if I'm missing something from my install, missing a general codec or what.

I'm able to open other audio and video files fine.

Any ideas?

 

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling - but no luck there either.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Adobe AU CS6 Font Size

I have a copy of adobe AU CS6 that I got when in digital production school, everything worked fine till I got a new faster PC with a 28" 4K monitor, now all the font on the screen is super super  tiny and I can't adjust it, am I screwed do I need to goto a different program like Presonus Studio one Artist witch is fine with font size?

 

I hate to have to switch because I am so familiar with adobe AU CS6.

BWF batch converting - radio station problem workflow. Media Encoder bug

Hi all,

 

I just thought I'd share a problem I've had, and it's more of a workflow issue, even with the latest version of CC.

 

Audition can open BWFs from RCS software ( Master Control, Selector/Linker, Zetta) fine, which is great. I can then save the files as a batch to MP3 to 320k etc.

 

The problem that I'm experiencing is a bad workflow. If I want to convert 1500 files, I have to load 1500 files in to Audition, and then sit and wait for them to be batch converted.

I thought there has to be a better way. So I decided to try the same thing in Media Encoder, but the program doesn't support BWF...

 

I find this a little strange.

 

In the next release, can you make Media Encoder support the same file formats as Audition?

Audition 2015.2 Released

I happened to check the Creative Cloud desktop today looking for something else and happened to noticed that a new version of Audition (2015.2) has been released as of today.

 

A couple of months ago I read a post about the new features they'd introduced at NAB--but it's nice to see them in the flesh.

 

I've only had a short try out but I think I'm going to like the "Stacked Panel Group" setting.  The "Essential Sound" panel could be interesting but it'll take some checking to see what it can do compared to going through a lot of manual processes and effects.

 

Anyhow, I thought I'd mention it's there since (in my case at least) it would have been easy to miss.

Razor tool and snapping

In Audition CC, is there a way I can use the razor tool so it snaps to the bar and beats?

 

I find this applies in other sound editing programs but i cant seem to get it happen in audition, would be very handy.

I understand the time selection tool snaps to bars and beats but Im wanting the razor tool aswell, perhaps I have simply missed something.

 

An option to turn this on and adjust how many beats it snaps too would be great.

 

This could also apply to the playhead.

I would love to see full list of the new featuers & changes made in this version of Audition but I've not managed to find this info anywhere - does anyone have any ideas? I'm particularly interested to see if the "dynamic link" workflow between Premiere Pro and Audition has been enhanced.

Does Audition CC 2015.2 update corrupt preferences data?

I installed the update just now to all cloud apps, including Audition, which is the first I ran because I am on a deadline right now for a documentary film.  When I launched Au, the window set did not look as it should with the latest workspace redisplayed.  The Window > Workspace menu is missing all of my configurations.  Double drat!  If there is not a way to recover my preferences from the previous installation, I must now waste client time rebuilding my UI environment.

 

Now I wonder, what else has been lost?

Adobe, please investigate, test and reply with an answer, if possible.

Professional livelihoods and reputations are affected by problems such as these, which require far more care to avoid.

 

Have you run into this or any other, similar issues?

How do I swap left/right channels?

Humans, I am using Adobe Audition CS6, how do I swap the left and right audion channels of a stereo file?

 

It used to be straightforward in AA3 using the swap channels effect.

 

Now it is gone.

 


What do I do, have I missed something?

Flaky export with markers for large/long Au file

Environment:  Adobe CC, Dell Desktop, nVidia GTX 980-ti, 8 core w/ HT, 32GB RAM, 70+TB in multiple external RAID enclosures.

 

I produce long videos on a weekly basis.  My work flow includes multitrack editing in Au, then FILE/EXPORT/MULTITRACK MIXDOWN with markers to AIFF, which I then import into Pr.  I've been doing this successfully for at least a year.  Recently, my exports with markers appear to work OK, as measured by no Au or Pr error messages and the presence of a 2MB peak file, but the markers don't show up in Pr.  If I Au export time selection the first 5 minutes of the 3 hour Au file, the markers show up in Pr.  If I Au export time selection 3 1-hour segments, the markers show up in Pr.  They don't show up in Pr, however, if I export the entire 3 hour session.

 

Thoughts anyone?

Suspend groups delay?

I haven't noticed this until recently, but there seems to be a graphical delay when I suspend groups.  I have the function mapped to a mouse button because I use it quite often.  Anyway, I'll click the button, and the little "group icons" on the clips do not change immediately to "non-suspended" (solid circle) or "suspended" (broken circle) as immediately as it used to.  So what's happening is, I'll try to move a chunk of grouped clips, only to find I'm only moving one of those clips because the group was suspended when the icons say it's not.  Generally, when I click elsewhere (for example, on another clip), all of the group icons will update to whatever group state is active at the time, but in practice, I'd really like to know on sight whether the groups are suspended or not (which is the point of the icon anyway). 

 

Is this a bug that anyone else has noticed?  Does anyone know of a workaround?  It's seriously hampering my workflow.  My system is pretty robust; solid state HDs and tons of ram; and as I mentioned this hasn't happened until recently.  Could it be something to do with the recent update?

Make audio sound like 90's video game?

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to make my audio files sound like they belong into an early 3d game (ps1-N64).

Is there any way I could tweak my sounds in Audition so they sound like a midi file, or at least sound like synthesized sounds?
